In June 2025, Midea and the CPSC recalled roughly 1.7 million U/U+ series window units (sold under Midea, Frigidaire, Danby, Comfort Aire, Insignia, Keystone, and other brand names) over a drainage defect linked to internal mold growth — 152 mold reports and 17 illness reports were logged with the CPSC. This recall affects many brand names, not just Midea. The June 2025 CPSC recall of Midea's U/U+ Series window ACs covered approximately 1.7 million units sold under nine brand names: Midea, Frigidaire, Danby, Comfort Aire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr. Cool, and Perfect Aire, plus Sea Breeze — in 8,000, 10,000, and 12,000 BTU sizes, sold between March 2020 and May 2025. The CPSC logged 152 reports of mold and 17 reports of illness tied to a drainage defect. If you own or are considering any window AC sold under one of those names, it's worth checking the model number against the recall directly — the hardware inside may be the same recalled unit regardless of which logo is on the front.
Where LG's Dual Inverter line fits
LG's Dual Inverter window ACs are a separate product line and hardware design from the recalled Midea U-shape units — they aren't manufactured by Midea and aren't part of this recall. The inverter-compressor approach still gets you the quieter, more efficient, less on/off-cycling behavior people liked about the U-shaped design category, just built on different hardware from a different manufacturer.
